Celebrate Freedom to Read Week

With book banning making headlines in the news lately, this year’s Freedom to Read week is more important than ever.

What is Freedom to Read Week?

For those who aren’t familiar, Freedom to Read week occurs every February in Canada. It encourages Canadians to celebrate our commitment to intellectual freedom and challenge censorship. These freedoms allow Canadians to actively defend their right to publish, read and write without worrying about the negative effects of censorship. For more information, including resources, news and events, visit https://www.freedomtoread.ca/.

Want to borrow and read a commonly challenged book? We made a list for that!

Commonly Challenged Books

Watch for us on social media all week while we highlight some of the most commonly challenged books in libraries and schools across the country.
