1. Biography clippings binders have information about people and are organized by last name.

2. Subject binders are divided by topics including

  • Schools
  • Hotels, restaurants and numerous other businesses
  • Ethnic groups, Métis and First Nations

Historic newspapers

The StarPhoenix and its predecessors back to 1902 are on microfilm. If the date is up to 25 years ago, you’ll find the film in Local History. For the most recent 25 years, visit the Fine Arts department on the second floor of Frances Morrison Central Library.

Some pre-1900 newspapers from what was then the Northwest Territories are also available on microfilm in Local History.

Note that Local History is not open on Saturdays. Call ahead if you’ll be here on a Saturday and we’ll make arrangements for you to view the microfilm in the Fine Arts department.

How to find an article on microfilm

It’s not possible to ‘Google search’ microfilm. Try to obtain the date of an article beforehand or you’ll be browsing through reels of film.
