New Central Library

It’s official! Saskatoon’s new central library is planned to open in 2026! We envision a new central library that will be infused with the spirit of this community, Treaty 6 Territory and the Homelands of the Métis, and be a source of inspiration and pride for those who call Saskatoon home.

As this multi-year project continues there will be opportunities for the public to provide input and inspiration in the design of the new library.

Capital Projects

Rusty Macdonald Library

A video game room, new children’s area, innovation lab and quiet reading spaces are just some of the features that have been included in the newly renovated Rusty Macdonald Branch. In 2019, the branch underwent its first major renovation since it opened 30 years ago.

Frances Morrison Central Library

In 2019, we revitalized the teen area at our central library with new carpet, paint, flooring, furniture and shelving.

J.S. Wood Library

The lower level of the J.S. Wood Branch underwent a refresh that was completed in early 2020. This followed a refresh of the main level that was completed in 2017.

Frances Morrison Central Library II

The Innovation Lab in the Children’s area (second floor) at Frances Morrison Central Library provides a variety of free materials patrons can use to create without limits in a self-directed learning space.
