New Central Library’s Final Design Released
Following years of planning and community consultations, we’ve released the final design for the new central library. Inspired by Indigenous cultures and architecture, this new library features many new spaces and will support world-class library services in our community for decades. The design of the new central library celebrates Saskatoon, its people and history, affirming a time-honoured commitment to inspiring lifelong learning and creating community connections.
We are thankful to the thousands of residents who provided feedback during formal and informal consultations as the design process unfolded. And we are incredibly thankful to the many people who volunteered on our 13 resident advisory committees. Your feedback and sharing of lived experiences were profoundly moving and helped ensure the new library is welcoming and accessible to everyone.
To help residents learn more about this project, we are hosting a virtual information session on Thursday, Oct 20 from 7 – 8 pm.
Remediation of the site and construction of the new central library site is scheduled to begin next year, and we plan to open the facility in 2026 at 321 2nd Ave N. At this time, the costs for this project align with the budget. Learn more about our cost-estimating process here.
